MP3s: The Clockwork Promenade | Omit
Hi. I'm Judson. I'm doing this in first person because I always feel ridiculous writing about myself in third person. I've been making all sorts of bizarre electronic music for about 9 years now. Ambient, IDM, Pop, Chip Tunes, a cappella - you name it. So long as it doesn't involve anything more than synths and vocals, I've probably done it. I give it away free, too, because I'm a fool. I gave up on trying to make a profit with such a niche market a long time ago and these days I just make music because I love it. I love losing hours of sleep several nights in a row because I'm working on a new album and then trying to drag myself into work during the day. Is the work I do good? Who knows! If you enjoy it I'd be honored, but I just strive to make music that makes me happy. And that's the best anyone can do.
Clyde

MP3: Broken
One guy had a guitar who knew a guy with drums who had a sister who was dating a guy who had a roommate who knew how to play bass who worked with a bartender who knew this guy who sang in chorus in high school . . . and Clyde was born. Using the old-school approach and taking time to write catchy and hard-rockin' tunes, Clyde spent the first part of 2005 writing and rehearsing; in August of 2005, the EP "Drowned" was released. The release led to a six-month string of shows through virtually every club in the 5 boroughs of NYC, including CBGB's, the Knitting Factory, and Continental. In spring of 2006, it was back to the studio, and Kevin Crouse (who has worked with Nas, Diddy, and the Black Eyed Peas, among others) came onboard to mix and Fred Kevorkian (working with the likes of the White Stripes and Iggy Pop) came onboard to master. Clyde released "Blank Stares and Dialogue Reruns" in February of 2007. Within one week of its release, "Dead to the World" began getting airplay on Radio X 94.7 in New York and "Cruel Summer" debuted on the podcast "Coverville." Clyde is now focusing on festivals, press, and airplay - so watch your back, Clyde is on the move.

MP3: Regressed
Main tunesmith Graeme Martin is a refugee from pre-Brit-poppers BUM!, while lead guitarist Paul Langford brings a wealth of experience to the group. One-time Circus of Horrors chainsaw illusionist Carli complements the sound with a heady combination of honking sax, tuneful melodies, and a fair bit of shouting, while vintage keyboard maestro and stylophone specialist Leo brings in yet more to the line-up. Drums are played by a hairy urchin known only as Dirty Boy.
Freezepop

MySpace: www.myspace.com/freezepop
MP3s: Bike Thief (Tubeway Remix) | Ninja of Love
Formed in Boston in the summer of 1999, Freezepop is comprised of band members Liz Enthusiasm (vocalist), the Duke of Pannekoeken (producer/vocalist/programmer), and Sean Drinkwater (synthesizers/programmer/vocalist). They have released two full-length albums and several EPs on their own label, Archenemy. A key factor in Freezepop's success has been that they have sought out licensing opportunities as an alternate means of getting their music heard. A natural fit on videogame soundtracks, the band saw their following grow through songs in the cult music-based games Frequency and Amplitude, and then increase exponentially after appearing in the massively popular Guitar Hero series and Dance Dance Revolution. After nearly eight years of self-releasing their CDs, Freezepop is very excited to be partnering with Cordless Recordings/Rykodisc for the September 25, 2007 release of their brand new album, Future Future Future Perfect.
HairPeace

Band website: www.hairpeace.net
MySpace: www.myspace.com/hairpeace
MP3: Blue in Tennessee
Getting the name for their duo from the famous 1969 "Bed-In for Peace" held by John Lennon and Yoko Ono, HairPeace has been keeping the music of the acoustic pioneers such as Bob Dylan, The Beatles, Joni Mitchell, and CSNY alive in coffeehouses and other venues throughout the southeast. In addition, they've regularly welcomed listeners into their "own" musical house with their brand of original folk-rock in both smaller venues and larger regional festivals. The give and take vocally and musically between Chrystine, Ray, and their listeners is a harmonious experience that will keep your feet tapping and a smile on your face that will make its way into your psyche and have you humming HairPeace tunes for days. The songs they write together are a direct reflection of their ever-evolving love of music and each other.
Mr. J Medeiros

MP3: Constance
Rap music can either be really hard or hardly real. Mr. J. Medeiros is living a life drenched in reality and writing lyrics that reflect it. Though he had East-coast B-boy roots since age 7, it was in the rather unlikely location of the fledgling hip-hop scene of Colorado Springs that J found his calling. He used the college radio station, won local MC battles, began building his breaking crew, served as a DJ at a number of events, and wrote some graffiti - which eventually sent him on his career path where he jump-started a record label with friends and moved to Los Angeles with his group, The Procussions. Over the nine years that J has spent making music with his LA-based trio, they've earned their stripes by playing to over 150 crowds per year. In 2003, they released "As Iron Sharpens Iron," and attracted legendary independent hip-hop imprint Rawkus Records to sign the group. In 2006, "5 Sparrows for 2 Cents" was released. The success of this album has given Medeiros a chance to develop his artistry while sharing the stage with hip-hop greats like The Roots, Big Daddy Kane, Talib Kweli, and A Tribe Called Quest. If his talents have been used as a gift to others, this would be J's biggest reward. Humbled yet determined, Mr. J. Medeiros sums up his goal, "I want my music to speak with dignity and inspire social change."
The Strand

MP3: You Make Me CraZy
Six quirky friends band together to bring you fun, dancy, riff-driven industrial music. Since their inception in 2000, The Strand has produced three full length CDs, and received massive acclaim from promoters, journalists, and fans across the globe with their catchy, aggressive hits. Their music gets airplay in numerous gothic and industrial clubs worldwide and has appeared in a variety of magazines, websites, and independent movies. Featured on four nationally distributed compilations, they have launched from being a small home-based production into the ears and eyes of industrial fans across the globe. They have supported several national acts, and performed on the main stage at Convergence 11 2005, as well as the Dark Arts Festival in Salt Lake City 2004.
The band does not take the conventional techno approach when bringing the music to a live scenario. Instead, a majority of the music is performed live with a drummer, four keyboardists, and male and female vocalists. If you have not seen a live performance by The Strand, it is really something to consider checking out. Currently the band is booking shows and hard at work on their next CD release, slated for mid-2007.
Suzie Zuzek

Band website: www.mp3.com.au/suziezuzek
MySpace: www.myspace.com/suziezuzek
MP3s: Sunless, Starless Darkness | The Deepest Blue
Suzie Zuzek (formerly known as Rhesus) is a musician from Australia who has been writing, recording, producing, and sometimes even performing her own style of music for about 15 years now. She started out compiling tapes of her music to give away to friends, strangers, or just independent stores. She writes about human nature and all of its pain and vulgarities. Her biggest setbacks in releasing her music worldwide have been a lack of resources and a craving for absolute creative freedom - and being a mother hasn't made things any easier either. According to Suzie, "My music is not about perfection, it's about documenting a moment in life, capturing the energy. Even all the little errors and imperfections in the recordings become part of the song like an annoying record scratch you become accustomed to. Music has always played an important part in my life; it has offered me an escape when things were terrible, offered me a voice when I couldn't speak, and given me a soundtrack to sing and dance (very bad robot dancing, I must add) to when times were bearable, almost good. It is just a pleasurable thing to do." You'll only hear real, raw emotion and a musician who feels that without song she is without meaning when you listen to Suzie Zuzek. Check out her band website for more free songs.
